          Steve Sheppard is a writer, musician, songwriter, and teacher.

          For eight years, he was editor of the original Nantucket Magazine, a respected quarterly dedicated to the history, people, and culture of the island.

          He is the author of two novels: Tourist Town: A Nantucket Idyll, and Nantucket Nocturne: A Winter’s Idyll. He also wrote a history of the Nantucket Yacht Club on the occasion of its centennial in 2006.

          Tourist Town received first place plaudits from the 2015 New England Book Festival and honorable mention from the 2021 Hollywood Book Festival.

          Nantucket Nocturne was awarded an honorable mention from the 2021 New England Book Festival.

          He has written for the Boston Globe, Philadelphia Inquirer and Providence Journal among other publications. His songwriting credits include “Tourist Town,” “The Fenway Song,” and “Molly’s Campground.”

          He began his journalism career with the Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror, working, at various times, as reporter, sports editor, and advertising salesperson. He also worked as a reporter for the Patriot Ledger, of Quincy, MA, and sports editor of the Nantucket Independent.

          He also served as deputy director of the Egan Institute of Maritime Studies (now the Egan Maritime Institute).

          He lives on Nantucket with his wife, Karin.
